Today's Sponsor of the day is

Scripture:

EZEKIEL 3:16-4:17, JEREMIAH 27:1-28:17, JEREMIAH 51:59-64

What’s Missing

“For the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has spoken about the pillars in front of the Temple, the great bronze basin called the Sea, the water carts, and all the other ceremonial articles. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon left them here when he exiled Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, to Babylon, along with all the other nobles of Judah and Jerusalem. Yes, this is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says about the precious things still in the Temple, in the palace of Judah’s king, and in Jerusalem: ‘They will all be carried away to Babylon and will stay there until I send for them,’ says the LORD. ‘Then I will bring them back to Jerusalem again.’”

Jeremiah 27:19-22

My Takeaways

Something Old

“Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately.”
Ezekiel 3:17

Something New

  • The Babylonians broke up the bronze pillars in front of the LORD’s Temple, the bronze water carts, and the great bronze basin called the Sea, and they carried all the bronze away to Babylon. (Jeremiah 52:17) The weight on these bronze articles was “too great to be measured.”
  • Bronze Sea: “Bronze basin at the entrance to the tabernacle used for ceremonial purification before sacrifices were made. It also symbolized God's forgiveness after sacrifices were made. Solomon commissioned a large basin for the temple at Jerusalem. It was over 14 feet in diameter and seven feet high: it weighed over 25 tons and held 13,000 gallons of water. It sat on the backs of 12 oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east.”

  • Ezra 1:7-10: No specific mention of Bronze Sea
  • “It is significant that the bronze laver was the last object to be encountered before entering the tabernacle (Exodus 40:6–7).”

  • Something that was so integral to their worship was suddenly gone. We sometimes overlook the daily things that aren't a focus but there is a big difference when they are gone.
  • The loss of certain daily practices can cause us to realize how important those practices were. The practices don’t affect God’s presence or work in our lives, but offer a visual to help us remember God’s presence.

Something to do

Don’t worship daily practices, but appreciate the clarity and significance they bring.
