The Threshing Floor

King Ahab of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah, dressed in their royal robes, were sitting on thrones at the threshing floor near the gate of Samaria.

1 Kings 22:10a

My Takeaways

Something Old

Agriculturally speaking

  • A threshing floor was a flat, open area where farmers would separate the grain from the straw after the harvest. The farmer separates the edible part from the inedible part by applying force through shaking, or hitting the wheat on the floor.

Spiritually speaking

  • God uses trials, and troubles to refine us. These trials separate us from our flesh. The process is called sanctification. It helps us become more like Christ.

I love this!

“The threshing floor is a place of decision-making, where important choices are made and commitments are sealed. It is where we lay down our burdens, surrender our will to God’s, and submit to His refining process. Just as the grain is separated from the chaff on the threshing floor, so too are we called to separate ourselves from worldly distractions and draw closer to God in purity and dedication.” - JohntheBaptist.org

  • Where is my threshing room?
  • Am I willing to separate myself from worldly distractions?
  • Do I want to draw closer to God?

Approach our threshing room with

  • Humility
  • Gratitude
  • Flexibility
  • Surrender

“As we reflect on the biblical meaning of the threshing floor, let us remember that God’s refining process may be painful at times, but ultimately it is for our own good. Just as the wheat is separated from the chaff on the threshing floor, so too are we separated from the impurities in our lives through the trials and tribulations we face. Let us embrace this process with faith and trust in the Lord, knowing that He is shaping us into vessels fit for His purpose.” - JohntheBaptist.org

Something New

As all the men of Judah stood before the LORD with their little ones, wives, and children.
2 Chronicles 20:13

I love that the little ones, wives, and children were there; the whole family.

Something to do

Take my time in my threshing room more seriously than I have been. Sometimes, my time there might be painful and frustrating.
