Scripture:

PSALM 75-78

God’s Response to Rejection

But they kept testing and rebelling against God Most High. They did not obey his laws.

Psalm 78:56

My Takeaways

Something Old

I thought this was so interesting, something I’ve never thought of.

“The Bible and history are filled with the fulfillment of this promise and principle. Haman was filled with wrath against Mordecai; God used the wrath of Haman to bring Himself praise. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day were filled with wrath against God’s own Son; God used the wrath of the religious leaders to bring Himself praise. We can see this principle fulfilled in history; by faith we should believe it to be so today when men show their wrath against God and His people.” - David Guzik: Enduringword.org

Human defiance only enhances your glory, for you use it as a weapon.
Psalm 76:10

Something New

There is a lot about rejection and abandonment throughout the Psalms. We all at times feel rejected and abandoned by God. The Lord taught me something new and true about Himself.

God sovereignly allows hard things in our life, because of our response to Him, not because He is a bully, but to assist in our deliverance from ourselves.

It does, sometimes, seem that God turns from us, but it is us who turns from God when we:

  • Reject His teaching, His way, and His leading.
  • Put other gods before Him.

We invite His testing, and discipline, when we consistently abandon, reject, and disobey Him.

He purposely abandoned the Temple, and purposely surrendered the Ark in response to the spiritual contempt of His people.

  • Then he abandoned his dwelling at Shiloh, the Tabernacle where he had lived among the people. He allowed the Ark of his might to be captured; he surrendered his glory into enemy hands.
    Psalm 78:60-61

Something to do

Wendy, don’t deliver your own rejection through disobedience and idolatry.
