Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.

2 Corinthians 13:5

Paul is urging those participants in such behavior to examine themselves for wrongdoing.

Isn’t it true that it is easier to examine and test others than to examine and test ourselves?

“To examine yourself, in fact, is to submit to the examination and scrutiny of Jesus Christ the Lord – and this never to fix attention on sin but on Christ – and to ask Him to reveal that in you which grieves His Spirit; to ask Him to give you grace that it might be put away and cleansed in His precious blood.” Self-examination “takes the chill away from your soul, it takes the hardness away from your heart, it takes the shadows away from your life, it sets the prisoner free.”” - Alan Redpath

Takes the: 

• Chill away from your soul.
• Hardness away from your heart.
• Shadows away from your life.
• Set the prisoner free.

The prisoner in this quote is the one with unconfessed sin.

What keeps the person a prisoner? Pride.

• a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.

You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.
