MARK 16:19-20, LUKE 24:50-53, ACTS 1:1-2:47

Devotion Despite Difficulty

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.

Acts 2:42

My Takeaways

Something Old

Devoted (Steadfastly) proskartereĂł (pros-kar-ter-eh'-o) (pro kas ter-eh'-o)

to continue to do something with intense effort, with the possible implication of despite difficulty – 'to devote oneself to, to keep on, to persist in'

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.
John 16:33

How do I handle difficulty?

  • Do I take heart, find courage, and tenacity in the victory of Jesus? That His victory will hold me through my difficulty?
  • Do I continue with intense effort despite the difficulty?
  • Do I wallow in the difficulty?
  • Do I walk away from the hard season of my faith?

When we steadfastly

  • Follow the apostle’s doctrine (teaching of Jesus)
  • Fellowship with other believers
  • Celebrate the Lord’s Supper
  • Pray

Our faith will increase, the gospel will be advanced, and the Kingdom will grow.

Something New

We are to do everything to advance the gospel to the ends of the earth.

  • But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
    Acts 1:8

Because everyone from anywhere who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved.

  • But everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.
    Acts 2:21

Something to do

Trust that the victory Jesus accomplished on the cross and the salvation He extended me through grace will not only sustain me through the difficulty, but will also give me victory also.
