Staying Power

But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word.

Matthew 13:21

My Takeaways

Something Old

The farmer scatters the seed: it falls on shallow, stony, or soft soil.

Without deep roots, the enemy:

  • Lures us from His Word with wealth and success.
  • Deceives us with alternatives other than God’s Word to resolve the problem.
  • Crowds our life with worries and troubles.

We must have deep roots so we aren’t easily snatched away.

Roots grow strong and deep when they have:

  • Support from other roots to help steady them until they are established.
  • Consistent and proper nourishment
  • Proper pest control.
  • Seasonally pruned.

Ephesians 4:14

  • Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.

Something New

I love how the Word of God ties together!

Psalm 1:1-3 AMPC

Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.

But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.

And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].

Something to do

Do what is necessary to have deep roots of faith.
