JEREMIAH 5:20-6:30, 2 KINGS 22:3-20, 2 CHRONICLES 34:8-28

Confronted With The Word

Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the court secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the LORD’s Temple!” Then Hilkiah gave the scroll to Shaphan, and he read it.

2 Kings 22:8

My Takeaways

Something Old

When God’s Word is read, we should expect some sort of revival.

Do I react with joy that I have the Book of the Law/God’s written word in my hands, AND that I have Holy Spirit to teach me everything I need to know?

  • Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the court secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the LORD’s Temple!” Then Hilkiah gave the scroll to Shaphan, and he read it.
    2 Kings 22:8

Do I despair when I don’t obey His commands, and follow His way?

  • When the king heard what was written in the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes in despair.
    2 Kings 22:11

Do I realize my response to God’s Word can change the lives of others?

  • So, I will not send the promised disaster until after you have died and been buried in peace. You will not see the disaster I am going to bring on this city.’”
    2 Kings 22:20

Warren Wiersbe asks, “Have you “lost” the Word somewhere, even in the midst of a religious life?”

Something New

Another example of God accepting repentance and offering forgiveness, but not removing the consequence. He removed the people who repented, but not the disaster.

So I will not send the promised disaster until after you have died and been buried in peace. You yourself will not see the disaster I am going to bring on this city and its people.’”
2 Chronicles 34:28a

Something to do

Think about this question…

“Have you “lost” the Word somewhere, even in the midst of a religious life?”
