Today's Sponsor of the day is

Scripture:

ISAIAH 34:1-35:10, MICAH 2:1-5:15

Destruction and Restoration

It will be haunted by the desert owl and the screech owl,
the great owl and the raven…

There the owl will make her nest and lay her eggs.
She will hatch her young and cover them with her wings.
And the buzzards will come,
    each one with its mate.

Isaiah 34:11a,15

My Takeaways

Something Old

  • Lebanon was a symbol for wealth, strength, luxury, thriving, and beauty.
  • Isaiah 10:33-34: Assyria is compared to Lebanon, but God will cut down the forest of Lebanon (Assyria) and instead, “Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot—yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root.” (Isaiah 11:1)
  • The pride of Edom would be destroyed (Isaiah 34) but God brought new life in the desert, streams in the wasteland (Isaiah 35).
  • The conflict between Edom (pride) and Israel (new life) began years before Isaiah, and would continue, in some form, into the New Testament (Herod: descendant of Edomites; Jesus: descendant of David)

Something New

  • Owls and ravens were birds that were known for inhabiting and scavenging desolate places. But those birds still hatched their young and took care of them.
  • Evidence of restoration:
    • The wilderness rejoices and blossoms
    • Rejoicing and shouts of joy
    • Seeing the glory of the Lord
    • Strength to those who are weak
    • The blind see
    • The deaf hear
    • The lame walk
    • Growing and thriving
    • Safety

Something to do

Trust in God during times of destruction and restoration.
