Even so, Edom has been independent from Judah to this day. The town of Libnah also revolted about that same time. All this happened because Jehoram had abandoned the LORD, the God of his ancestors.

We have to truly evaluate our commitment to God.

• Are we committed to Him because of what He can do for us or because of who He is?
• It’s easy to be committed and stay committed when it is profitable for us, but how do we respond when things aren’t going well for us.

As we live true to God no matter the profit to us, but because of who He is, we continually experience:

• The palatable presence of God with us.
• The powerful power of God in us.
• The permanent protection of God over us.

When our commitment to God is conditionally on the gain we might have from being His child, we risk temporarily losing:

• The palatable presence of God with us.
• The powerful power of God in us.
• The permanent protection of God over us.

And remember how we live will affect those around us. 

• All this happened because Jehoram had abandoned the LORD, the God of his ancestors.

I’m amazed that God told Jehu that he had done well even though he didn’t destroy the gold calves.

I pray someday that someone says of me, “All this had happened because Wendy remained faithful to God.”
