The Eyes Of The LORD

The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.

2 Chronicles 16:9

My Takeaways

Something Old

At that time Hanani the seer came to King Asa and told him, “Because you have put your trust in the king of Aram instead of in the LORD your God, you missed your chance to destroy the army of the king of Aram.
2 Chronicles 16:7

What enemy am I still battling because I didn’t trust the Lord?

Something New

  • He formed an alliance with the enemy of the Lord.
  • He rejected correction from the Lord.
  • He threw the Lord’s messenger in prison.
  • He struck out against not only Hanani but also against others who were committed to God and could see the error of the king’s ways.

The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.
2 Chronicles 16:9

“What an exquisite thought is suggested by the allusion to the eyes of the Lord running to and fro throughout the whole earth! At a glance He takes in our position; not a sorrow, trial, or temptation visits us without exciting his notice and loving sympathy. In all the whole wide earth there is not one spot so lonely, one heart so darkened, as to escape those eyes.” - F.B. Meyer

The picture of God looking to and fro for faithful followers should shake us up.

  • What does He see when glances my way?
  • Does He find me faithful or trusting another instead?
  • What if the battle I’m battling is because I trusted someone or something other than God?

We learn that trusting someone or something instead of the Lord:

  • Can invite more conflict in our lives
  • Makes us a fool in the eyes of the Lord

Thus says the LORD: "Cursed [is] the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.
Jeremiah 17:5 (NKJV)

Something to do

Live in complete alliance with the Lord. Trust only Him, even when it is most difficult.
